Factory 16″ five-spoke alloy wheels are mounted with 225/50 Continental Extreme Contact Sport tires that wear 2016 date codes. The braking system has been modified with the installation of cross-drilled and slotted Brembo discs and features Mazda-branded calipers up front. Suspension work performed under current ownership has included replacing the pillow ball bushings as well as installing an R1-style front strut tower brace, adjustable toe links, and Delrin rear bushings.
The cabin features bolstered bucket seats that are said to have been reupholstered in tan leather accompanied by replacement black door panels. Replacement carbon-fiber trim panels accent the dash, center console, door panels, and door sills. Additional interior appointments include air conditioning, cruise control, and a JVC touchscreen head unit with navigation. The air conditioning system was rebuilt and the air compressor was replaced in March 2012.
The three-spoke steering wheel frames a 180-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and auxiliary gauges for oil pressure, coolant temperature, and fuel level. The gauge cluster glass and chrome instrument bezels are said to have been replaced under current ownership, and an AutoMeter turbo boost gauge is mounted to the steering column. The digital odometer indicates 64k chassis miles, approximately 50k of which have been added under current ownership.
The replacement twin-turbocharged 1.3-liter Wankel rotary engine was sourced from RX-7 World in Rock Hill, South Carolina, and installed by Ultimate Precision Motors in Bergenfield, New Jersey. Power is sent to the rear wheels though a five-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. The clutch is said to have been replaced in September 2005. An HKS downpipe is fitted in place of the pre-catalytic converter, and the car features a metal turbo Y-pipe as well as a Racing Beat cat-back exhaust system.
Manufacturer’s literature is included in the sale along with service records from Ultimate Precision Motors dating to 2005.
