The replacement 2.7-liter flat-six was rebuilt in 2011 by Motor Meister of Downey, California, with 3.0L-specification pistons, Turbo-specification chain rails, and a recurved distributor with electronic ignition as well as stainless-steel headers and a fabricated exhaust system. Work performed in 2018 included replacing the valve cover and oil cooler seals along with the oil return tubes and seals, and the fuel pump and filter were replaced in 2020. The oil was changed in August 2022, and the selling dealer notes an oil leak.
Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a five-speed manual transaxle equipped with a Kevlar clutch.
