The Super Beetle was offered solely as a cabriolet during its final year on sale to the North American market in 1979. This example is finished in black (041) and features a manually-operated matching soft top with a heated rear window, a black boot cover, running boards, rear-fender stone guards, polished side mirrors, and impact bumpers with rub strips. A Karmann body tag is affixed to the right fender.
Silver 15″ Lemmerz wheels are mounted with 165-width Continental whitewall tires that show 1979 date codes, and a matching spare is found in the trunk. Standard features included rack-and-pinion steering and four-wheel independent suspension. The wheel cylinders are said to have been replaced by the selling dealer.
The cabin houses front bucket seats and a rear bench trimmed in black basketweave vinyl upholstery along with color-coordinated door panels and salt-and-pepper carpeting. Faux wood trim accents the dash and amenities include a VDO quartz analog clock, a black rubber floor liner, crank windows, and door storage pockets.
The four-spoke steering wheel wears a Wolfsburg crest center cap and fronts a 100-mph speedometer with an inset fuel level gauge. The five-digit odometer shows 911 miles.
The air-cooled 1.6L flat-four is equipped with fuel injection and was factory rated at 48 horsepower and 73 lb-ft of torque. Work performed in preparation for the sale included an oil change, along with replacement of the battery and fuel lines, pump, and tank.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transaxle. Additional underside images are presented in the gallery.
