The N1 variant of the R32 was introduced in 1991 to homologate the model for FIA Group N competition in Japan and was later offered with the V-Spec and V-Spec II packages that became available in 1993 and 1994, respectively. N1 variants were offered exclusively with a thin coat of Crystal White (326) paint and were absent of the mesh intercooler grille and rear wiper of standard GT-R models while featuring the hood lip and bumper vents of the Nismo variant.
BBS 17” alloy wheels were part of the V-Spec packages, and V-Spec II examples were distinguished by wider 245/45 tires. Super HICAS four-wheel steering was standard for GT-R models, while V-Spec cars were also equipped with Brembo disc brakes. The N1 variant was absent of ABS.
The cabin is trimmed in two-tone gray cloth over seating for four, with color-matched carpeting and textured front floor mats with silver binding. Amenities include power windows and automatic climate control with air conditioning, the latter of which was optional for N1 cars. The N1 package also eliminated the standard inclusion of a radio.
The three-spoke steering wheel frames a 180-km/h speedometer, a 10k-rpm tachometer, and gauges monitoring front differential torque, fuel level, oil pressure, and coolant temperature. The six-digit odometer shows 8k kilometers (~5k miles), a few of which have been added under current ownership. A trio of gauges in the center stack monitor voltage, oil temperature, and boost pressure.
The 2.6-liter RB26DETT DOHC inline-six features twin turbochargers with steel turbines that were distinct to N1-specification cars. Service performed under current ownership included replacement of the timing belt, water pump, thermostat, and spark plugs as well as fluid changes and repairs to the wiring harness and vacuum hoses.
The five-speed manual transmission delivers power to all four wheels via an ATTESA E-TS all-wheel-drive system.
