The vehicle was placed on a rotisserie and much of its steel bodywork and underlying structure were replaced as shown in over 500 images taken during the process, which can be viewed here. A repaint was carried out in its factory scheme of Sealing Wax Red with Beige Grey upper portions. A new retractable cloth sunroof was also fitted.
Additional features included painted bumpers with corner guards, eight safari windows, polished beltline trim with red inserts, replacement weatherstripping and seals, and a load step under the side cargo doors. Gray 15″ steel wheels wear VW-stamped hubcaps and are mounted with wide-whitewall tires. The suspension, braking, and steering systems have been rebuilt.
The interior has been reupholstered in a tri-tone scheme and features replacement door and side panels in addition to a mohair headliner. The walk-through arrangement features split front seats, with the left wider than the right. The outer middle-row backrest folds down for access to the rear bench, and wraparound jail bars are fitted in the cargo area
A two-spoke steering wheel with a Wolfsburg-crest horn button frames a rebuilt 80-mph VDO speedometer with a five-digit odometer that shows 40 miles since installation. Total mileage is unknown. A clock is located ahead of the passenger seat, and a Sapphire I AM radio is also mounted in the dash.
The replacement 1,600cc flat-four is fed by dual carburetors and drives the rear wheels through a four-speed manual gearbox.
