The 2.3-liter M127 inline-six is stamped 127-981-10-013351, which matches the engine number listed on the Mercedes-Benz Certificate. The engine features Bosch mechanical fuel injection and was rated at 148 horsepower and 145 lb-ft of torque when new. The cylinder head was rebuilt in 2008 along with replacement of the fuel pump, and a PerTronix electronic ignition module has been installed.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a ZF5 five-speed manual transmission which and a 4.08:1 differential. The transmission is stamped 1031, which matches the transmission number listed on the Mercedes-Benz Certificate.
