The car left the factory finished in Sand Beige (6607) and the exterior was repainted under prior ownership. Features include fog lights, a driver-side mirror, front vent windows, pop-out rear quarter windows, a single exhaust outlet, and body-color bumpers with decorative strips and chrome bumperettes.
The 15” steel wheels were stripped and powder-coated in silver under current ownership and wear polished hubcaps. 185/70 Vredestein Sprint Classic tires are mounted at all four corners, and a matching spare is stored in the front trunk along with a tool roll. The front lip and suspension pan as well as the fuel tank support and washer bottle mounting bracket were replaced in 2021. Work in 2022 included refurbishing the rear suspension, installing Koni rear shocks, and replacing the axle assemblies. Stopping power is provided by four-wheel disc brakes, and service in 2022 included fitting a dual-circuit master cylinder as well as replacing the pressure regulator and brake lines.
The cabin features low-back front bucket seats and rear jump seats trimmed in black leatherette with color-coordinated door panels. The Charcoal squareweave carpets were replaced in 2021, and additional appointments include bright metal dashboard trim and a push-button Blaupunkt AM/FM radio.
The four-spoke steering wheel frames green-letter VDO instrumentation consisting of a centrally mounted 7k-rpm tachometer flanked by a 120-mph speedometer and a combination gauge. The selling dealer states that the speedometer was replaced in the 1970s. The installed five-digit odometer shows 18k miles, and is reported to have rolled over. True mileage is unknown.
The air-cooled flat-four is said to be equipped with oversized pistons and cylinders that bring displacement to 1.7 liters. Service in 2022 included removing and resealing the engine, repainting the cooling shrouds, rebuilding the twin Solex carburetors, replacing the pushrod tubes and exhaust manifold heat exchangers, and fitting an electric fuel pump and pressure regulator.
The engine number is shown above, and additional powertrain stampings are presented in the gallery.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a five-speed manual transaxle, which is said to have been rebuilt and fitted with a replacement clutch under prior ownership. The exhaust system was replaced in 2021, and the transaxle mounts were replaced in 2022.
