The GT500 was added to the Shelby American lineup for the 1967 model year. Fiberglass construction was used for the extended nose cap, elongated hood, taillight panel, trunk lid, ducktail rear spoiler, and fender extensions as well as the air scoops on the sail and quarter panels.

The GT500 was added to the Shelby American lineup for the 1967 model year. Fiberglass construction was used for the extended nose cap, elongated hood, taillight panel, trunk lid, ducktail rear spoiler, and fender extensions as well as the air scoops on the sail and quarter panels.
This example was delivered from the factory in Wimbledon White and received bodywork before it was painted in its current white. The chrome brightwork was replated, and the stainless steel trim was polished during the refurbishment. A replacement driver-side mirror, body seals, hood pins, and fender and decklid emblems were also fitted.
The 10-spoke Deluxe aluminum alloy wheels were refinished during the refurbishment and mounted with E70–15 Goodyear Speedway bias-ply tires. A matching spare wheel and tire are mounted in the trunk. Power steering was equipped from the factory, and replacement shock absorbers were installed during the refurbishment. The lower control arms and upper ball joints were replaced in January 2023. The power-assisted braking system was overhauled during the project and fitted with replacement front discs, rear drums, and lines.
The cabin features the Interior Décor Group, which added knit pattern inserts to the black vinyl front bucket seats and fold-down rear seat. Brushed aluminum accents extend to the dash and door panels, and replacement carpets were added during the refurbishment. Additional equipment includes three-point front seatbelts, a push-button AM radio, the Courtesy Light Group, and a Shelby-specific roll bar.
The wood-rimmed steering wheel is adorned with a Shelby horn button and frames a 140-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 6k-rpm redline. Stewart-Warner gauges indicating oil pressure and amperage are mounted beneath the push-button AM radio. The five-digit odometer shows under 16k miles, approximately 1k of which have been added since the refurbishment.
The replacement 428ci Police Interceptor V8 was rebuilt and installed by the seller’s shop in 2017 with the cylinders honed, the crankshaft reground, and the installation of Comp Cams lifters, Clevite bearings, Cobra Jet rods, and forged pistons. The engine is topped with dual four-barrel Holley carburetors and also features a PerTronix distributor in a period-look housing, aftermarket Le Mans valve covers, and a finned Cobra air cleaner. A replacement radiator and Motorcraft battery were also installed during the project.
Engine block casting C6ME-A can be seen above, and it translates to a 1966-1970 428ci Police Interceptor engine with two-bolt mains.
Power is sent to the rear wheels via a four-speed manual transmission, which was installed by the seller, along with a 9″ rear differential that received a replacement ring gear, pinion, and bearings. A replacement fuel tank and lines were fitted along with axle bearings and an exhaust system, and the driveshaft was repainted with factory-style markings.
