The GT500 was added to the Shelby American lineup for the 1967 model year with fiberglass construction used for its extended nose cap, elongated hood, taillight panel, trunk lid, ducktail rear spoiler, fender extensions, and air scoops on the sail panels and quarters. This example was originally finished in Dark Moss Green and was repainted during the early-2010s refurbishment in its current shade of red accented by white over-the-top stripes and rocker-panel stripes with inset GT500 script. Additional features include inboard grille-mounted high-beam lamps, hood-retention pins, a driver-side mirror, and dual exhaust outlets.
Mag-Star-style alloy wheels are wrapped in reproduction E70-15 Goodyear raised-white-letter tires. Both steering and braking are power assisted, with the latter system combining discs up front and drums at the rear. The GT500 model featured an enhanced suspension with Gabriel adjustable shock absorbers all around and rubber travel limiters for the rear leaf springs. This example’s suspension and braking systems are said to have been refreshed during the refurbishment.
The interior was re-trimmed during the refurbishment and features black vinyl with Comfortweave inserts over the front bucket seats and fold-down Sport Deck rear seat. Deluxe-style accents include brushed aluminum trim on the dash and door panels, while additional features include color-matched loop carpeting, a roll bar with inertia-reel shoulder harnesses, a chrome shifter with reverse lock-out, and a push-button AM radio.
The wood-rimmed steering wheel features a Shelby horn button and sits ahead of a 140-mph speedometer, an 8k-rpm tachometer, a clock, and auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer shows 2k miles, approximately 20 of which have been added under current ownership. A Rally Pac instrument pod mounted under the center dash hosts green-line Stewart-Warner gauges monitoring oil pressure and amperage, while a Sunpro coolant temperature gauge has been added to the left of the pod.
The 428ci V8 was reportedly built during the refurbishment and features include twin 600-cfm four-barrel Holley carburetors, an aluminum intake manifold, a cast-aluminum air cleaner cover, and ribbed aluminum “Cobra Le Mans” valve covers. Service in preparation for the sale is said to have included rebuilds of the carburetors and fluid changes.
Power is sent to the rear wheels via a Toploader four-speed manual transmission and a 9” rear end that is said to utilize 3.00:1 gear ratio.
