The 308 GTB was introduced at the 1975 Paris Motor Show and featured Pininfarina-styled bodywork over a tubular steel chassis. Early production models featured fiberglass bodywork by Carrozzeria Scaglietti before the coachbuilder switched to steel body panels in June 1977. This steel-bodied example is said to have been refinished in its current shade of red in 2017, and the rubber seals were reportedly replaced at that time. Exterior features include dual side mirrors, louvered rear quarter windows, and a vented decklid. The pop-up headlamp wiring was reportedly repaired by the selling dealer. Photos included in the gallery show finish imperfections as well as bubbling on the driver-side fender.
Silver 14″ five-spoke alloy wheels are mounted with older 205/70 Michelin XWX tires. The car features a fully independent suspension with double wishbones at each corner, and stopping power is provided by four-wheel ventilated discs. Work performed in 2019 included the installation of replacement sway bar end links and bushings along with brake rotors, pads, and lines. Corrosion is visible on the lugs.
The bolstered seats were reportedly reupholstered in cream leather in 2018, and the selling dealer notes that the carpets were also replaced at that time. The electric windows are said to have been repaired under current ownership, and the Pioneer CD stereo does not work. The R134a-converted air-conditioning system is stated to have a leak and also does not work. Photos showing discoloration on the dash as well as wear on the interior surfaces are included in the gallery.
The three-spoke leather-wrapped steering wheel frames Veglia instrumentation including a 280-km/h speedometer and a tachometer with a 7,700-rpm redline as well as an analog clock and gauges for fuel level, water temperature, and oil pressure. The five-digit odometer shows 52k kilometers (~32k miles), approximately 100 of which were added by the selling dealer.
The mid-mounted 2.9L quad-cam V8 was factory rated at 252 horsepower in European configuration. Work performed in 2019 included rebuilt carburetors and replacement of the water pump, thermostat, hoses, camshaft gaskets, distributor cap and rotor, spark plugs and wires, and fuel filter and sending unit. Hill Engineering tensioners and replacement belts were reportedly installed in 2022. Corrosion is evident on the headers.
