The Berlinetta Boxer model was introduced at the Turin Auto Show in 1971 with styling by Pininfarina’s Leonardo Fioravanti and was produced in three evolutions, the last of which was the 512 BBi. Construction incorporates a steel-paneled cabin section between tubular subframes, while bodywork combines aluminum front and rear clamshells and door panels with fiberglass lower panels.
This example is finished in Rosso Corsa, and closeups of the finish, trim, and lenses are provided in the photo gallery below. Features include pop-up headlights flanking aluminum hood louvers, NACA ducts rearward of the doors, a high-mount rear spoiler, a front chin spoiler, fog lights external to the grille, and rectangular side markers.
Metric-sized Cromodora alloy wheels are secured by octagonal knock-offs and are wrapped in 240/55VR415 Michelin TRX tires that are said to have been mounted in May 2022. A space-saver spare tire is housed in the front compartment. Stopping is handled by servo-assisted disc brakes at each corner, and a 2015 refresh included the replacement of the calipers and hoses.
The cabin is upholstered in tan leather with black inserts on the seating surfaces that are complemented by black upper dash trim. An area of wear is exhibited on the outer bolster of the driver’s seat. Additional features include tan carpeting, a gated shifter, sill-mounted ashtrays, air conditioning, power windows, and Pioneer audio components including a cassette radio, an equalizer, and door speakers.
The leather-wrapped MOMO steering wheel frames Veglia Borletti instrumentation including a 200-mph speedometer, a 10k-rpm tachometer, and gauges monitoring coolant temperature and oil pressure. The five-digit odometer shows 16k miles, approximately 2k of which have been added under current ownership. Instruments positioned to either side of the driver include a clock and gauges monitoring oil temperature, amperage, and fuel level.
The 4.9-liter F110A flat-12 features dual overhead camshafts on each cylinder bank, dry-sump lubrication, and Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection. The engine was rebuilt by Ferrari of Atlanta between 2013 and 2015, with the block and cylinder heads sent out for machining. The twin CIS fuel distributors were also rebuilt at that time, and the injectors were replaced.
The five-speed manual transaxle was rebuilt during the 2013-2015 project. A Tubi Style cat-back exhaust system was also installed at that time. The suspension system incorporates unequal-length wishbones, anti-roll bars at front and rear, and coilover shock absorbers, with double coilovers at each rear wheel.
