Inspired by the success of European Carrera Cup programs, the US Cup series was terminated less than a month before its first scheduled race, with Porsche citing an inability to source a title sponsor. The cars began life as a variant of the European Carrera RS before being adjusted by Porsche to meet US regulations and subsequently modified for racing by Andial. This example was ordered new in Grand Prix White and features an aluminum front lid without gas struts, non-powered side mirrors, a retractable rear spoiler, and chassis reinforcement welds. The rear decklid struts were replaced in October 2020 and the rear bumper and other portions of the car are said to have been refinished during previous ownership.
Silver 17″ Cup-style wheels are mounted with spacers and wear 225/45 front and 255/40 rear Michelin Pilot Sport 2 tires that show date codes from 2017. The brake system consists of Turbo-style components and features black Porsche-branded calipers over cross-drilled and ventilated rotors at all four corners. The brake fluid was flushed during October 2020 service.
The partially-stripped interior features Recaro fixed-back bucket seats trimmed in black cloth upholstery with a color-coordinated dashboard and door panels. A custom roll cage was installed during previous ownership and is designed to replicate the European Carrera Cup cage with additional door bars. Other features include black-finished plywood floor coverings, electric windows, red Schroth harnesses, and an aftermarket accelerator pedal cover.
A three-spoke Momo steering wheel frames VDO instrumentation that includes a central tachometer, a 180-mph speedometer, an analog clock, and auxiliary gauges. The six-digit mechanical odometer indicates just under 58k miles.
US-market Carrera Cup cars were fitted with the blueprinted 3.6L flat-six used in the Carrera RS, which featured selectively matched pistons and cylinders. Factory-rated output was 256 horsepower and 240 lb-ft of torque. Additional features include sport-tuned Bosch DME engine management, solid rubber engine mounts, a sport flywheel in lieu of the standard Carrera’s dual-mass unit, a 36-ampere-hour battery, and an electrical kill switch. An oil change was carried out in October 2020, under prior ownership, and an aftermarket exhaust system with stainless steel heat exchangers has been installed.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a five-speed G50/10 manual transaxle that is equipped with steel synchonizers and a 20/100 percent variable-lock limited-slip differential. An October 2020 service included a transaxle fluid flush and additional underside images are included in the gallery below.
Documentation accompanying the car includes manufacturer’s literature, an uninstalled dashboard plaque, a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, partial service records, and a copy of a window sticker detailing colors, equipment, and a first delivery to Olmstead Motor Cars with a $78,340 retail price.
