The SAAC Car Company was an offshoot of the Shelby American Automobile Club and worked in conjunction with Ford and Carroll Shelby to create a modern interpretation of the Shelby GT350. This example is one of 11 MKII convertibles built and is finished in red with white LeMans and side body stripes. The car features LX-style taillights along with a Mustang GT-branded rear bumper cover and side skirts, and additional exterior details include a black soft top, a matching boot cover, SAAC badging, and a rear wing. Paint meter readings and blemishes are shown up-close in the gallery below.
Staggered-width five-lug 17″ Simmons wheels wear 245/45 Goodyear Eagle ZR45 tires showing 2019 and 2020 date codes. The car is fitted with Koni adjustable shock absorbers and higher rate springs relative to standard Mustang models. Stopping power is provided by four-wheel disc brakes with semi-metallic brake linings, and brake ducting is fitted in place of the factory fog lights. The seller notes that the parking brake needs to be adjusted.
The front seats are upholstered in black leather with perforated inserts, red accents, and SAAC backrest embroidery. Two-tone door panels contrast the black dashboard, and the footwells are lined with SAAC-branded floor mats. Amenities include a black roll bar with red MKII embroidery, cruise control, air conditioning, a Hurst shifter, and power windows and locks.
A dash-mounted plaque denotes this car as #15 of 15 MKII examples produced by SAAC.
The SAAC-branded leather-wrapped steering wheel frames a 140-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, and auxiliary gauges. The five-digit mechanical odometer shows 1,700 miles, approximately 100 of which have been added under current ownership.
The fuel-injected 5.0-liter V8 is equipped with GT40 cylinder heads, revised upper and lower intakes, a 65mm throttle body, and finned aluminum valve covers. SAAC rated the engine at 295 horsepower and 326 lb-ft of torque.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a five-speed manual transmission and a Traction-Lok rear differential with 3.27:1 gearing. The exhaust system consists of ceramic-coated stainless-steel exhaust headers, Borla low-restriction mufflers, and dual 2.25″ turned-down stainless-steel exhaust outlets.
The SAAC window sticker shows initial delivery to Sayville Ford in New York along with factory colors, equipment, and a total price of $51,395. A copy of the Manufacturer’s Certificate of Origin, historical documents, and a November 1992 edition of Mustang & Fords will accompany the car.
